Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP)
The Colorado Department of Education (CDE) administers CSAP to give parents, the public, and educators a uniform source of information about how well students and schools are achieving in relationship to the Colorado model content standards. SWAAAC Teams become involved with the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP) by ensuring that students with disabilities have access to the same accommodations that they commonly use during regular instruction. For the latest information on CSAP from the Colorado Department of Education (CDE) go to http://www.cde.state.co.us/cdeassess/index_csap.html
Accommodations are changes made to the standardized assessment procedure that provide a student with access and equal opportunity when taking the CSAP. Accomodations that might be used are described in the following document from the Colorado Department of Education. View the 2011-2012 Colorado Accommodations Manual (pdf).
CSAP-A
Some students will be eligible to take the CSAP-Alternate (CSAP-A). The IEP team determines if a child participates in this alternate assessment. The CSAP-A assesses emerging skills related to the Colorado Content Standards.
SWAAAC Teams are involved with these individual students access needs because of their high need for modifications and reliance on specialized equipment and assistive technology. Digital assessment content is provided to the SWAAAC Team Coordinator so that they can program it into students’ communication devices or produce it in formats that are familiar to or usable by a particular student.
