Tutorials and Forums for Discussing AT Devices

Some AT product manufacturers offer tutorials on their websites for learning how to better use their products. Optimal use of their AT products offers several advantages:

  • Products perform as desired or expected!
  • The usability or design features of the product are available to the end user.
  • The "end user" gets the full advantage of the AT device
  • Product upgrades are able to integrate with the user's current device set up

Check out the following tutorials on manufacturer's websites:

  1. IntelliTools - once on the site click on "Support" and go to Tutorials.
  2. Prentke Romich Co - troubleshooting guides for each of their products
  3. Upstate Communications - an AAC vendor in NY with a tutorial resource.
  4. WYNN Tip Sheets - (WYNN = What you need now) scan, read and edit software for students with learning disability.
  5. Kurzweil 3000 - scan, read and edit software for students with learning disability.

Check out the following Forums for AT Discussions

  1. Closing the Gap - once on the site, click "Forums". The discussion cover many topics. Check to see what is HOT!
  2. ISAAC (International Society for AAC) has an interactive section with a forum for discussing various aspects of communication impairment and treatment strategies.
  3. MSN Forum on AT - check in for a wide range of "Q&As"on the topic of AT.
  4. QIAT, Quality Indicators for Assistive Technology Services in School Settings is a national collegial endeavor dedicated to the development and implementation of quality AT services in school settings.
  5. Washington AT Forum - a project located in Washington state.
  6. WheelchairJunkie.com - has a discussion board for the pros and cons of mobility products.
